Aespa “Welcome to MY World” Pre-release Track Review

After a year with little to no new projects from Aespa, we have officially begun the new comeback cycle with the girls pre-release single, “Welcome to MY World”! As a precursor, I will say that I am going to be slightly biased in this review, as Aespa is my top favorite girl groups at the moment! But as always, I will do my best to review this song as objectively as possible. Lets check it out!

Right off the bat, this song is very sonically different from what we are used to from the girls previous discography. I really like the fact they are trying something new and fresh with this pre-release song. The track in general has a bit of a darker and more atmospheric vibe to it, giving it almost a sinister feeling. The song is driven by a hypnotic dreamy acoustic guitar, with some gritty electric guitar sprinkled in to aid in the progression of the song. I love the way the song gradually builds and the unique structure throughout. The addition of the strings in the second half was perfection, and gave the song even more impact, which I was craving here. The vocals were particularly stunning (per usual) with Ningning really having some really special moments throughout. The only two criticisms I have of this track is the use of the cricket sample (can really only hear it with headphones), which I found unnecessary and a little distracting from the rest of the instrumentation. Additionally, I think the mids in the production could have been more prominent, but I find the rest of the mix to be be pretty clean. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this track and think its a great song to introduce us to this new era of Aespa. Very much looking forward to their upcoming mini album!

Rating: 8.5/10
